This is not my original Iceland packing list. I learned my lesson the second I stepped off the plane and realized that I had severely underestimated the cold (hey I like to think of myself as an optimist). Thankfully, I learned a lesson so now you won’t have to! Though it was July and the weather lead me to believe it was going to be in the 60’s, it was lying to me and I should have packed enough clothing to layer. If you follow this packing list, you will be golden, especially if you’re camping!

The perfect 7 day Iceland packing list. This list is also great for camping in Iceland.
I am wearing 3 socks, two pants, a shirt, half zip up, fleece jacket, a hoodie, gloves and then two layers of these long coats that they gave us on the boat. Does that sound like 60 degree weather to you? I could barely move

7 Day Iceland Packing List

  • 3-4 pairs of leggings The long ones. None of this mid calf bullshit unless you want your legs to freeze. Make sure 2 out of the 4 are fleece lined
  • 2 pairs of jeans This comes in handy when you go into a real city and actually want to look like a human instead of just wearing leggings.  Plus serves well on a cold day when you are not hiking
  • 5-6 tops Bring long sleeves that work well with layering and throw in some cute tops to go with your jeans for the nightlife in Reykjavik. Just remember weather in Iceland fluctuates, so be sure that your base layer is cool enough in case it gets warm
  • 2 pairs of wool socks and 6 normal socks To save space, I recommend wearing normal socks and putting the wool ones on top when it’s extra cold outside. That way the wool socks do not get dirty. I know I sound super smart but alas I didn’t think about this until after Iceland
  • Primary jacket This will go over all of your layers. Pack something that is light yet warm
  • Rain coat It can rain any minute in Iceland so it’s good to be prepared
  • 2 pullovers/zip ups An extra layer to go under your primary jacket
  • Gloves, hat, and scarf This is an absolute necessity. One of each should be sufficient
  • Bathing suit You will need this for the Blue Lagoon! So do not forget to pack this
  • Sneakers/hiking boots These will get muddy/dirty… so do not bring your favorites
  • Nicer shoes – for your hot jeans/top outfit..trust me nightlife in Reykjavik is worth it
  • Toiletries, undergarments, etc. Make sure you have enough!!
  • Misc: shower shoes (flip flops), water bottle, dry shampoo, journal, car charger, towel

Need this on the go? Here’s a printer friendly checklist that you can download

Ever since I can remember I've loved to travel. As I get older, travel continues to be a priority and I find myself with an insatiable desire to travel as much as I possibly can. My travel style has shifted from jam packing my trips with the top sights and hopping from city to city to slower travel. I loves exploring lesser known destinations, connecting to the culture through food and wine, and supporting local-owned businesses. Every trip I take is an elevated adventure.
