I lived in Philadelphia for two glorious years and fell in love with the city. I know what you’re thinking but I really don’t know why Philly gets a bad rep because I found it to be the complete opposite. The city is steeped in history, has a fantastic coffee scene, mouthwatering restaurants, and so much more! If you’re visiting or moving to the city and are plant-based, keep reading for my list of the best vegan restaurants in Philly.
The Best Vegan Restaurants in Philly
Bar Bombon
This is easily one of the best vegan restaurants in Philly. This Latin inspired restaurant serves a vegan twist on Puerto Rican recipes. I used to eat here alll the time. It’s an absolute must. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.
Pro Tip: Do not even think about eating here if you’re not going to order the buffalo cauliflower tacos. They are out of this world! Their tres leches cake is also really impressive considering it’s a dessert that normally involves three kinds of milk.
Charlie was a Sinner
This restaurant is sexy. There’s no better way to describe it. From their thoughtfully crafted cocktails to their small plates packed with flavor, this is a perfect date night or impress-your-crush spot. Or eff it, go alone because you deserve it.
Pro Tip: Order their ricotta. You’ll have yourself thinking how in the world is this vegan!? I also lovee their potato croquettes.
HipCityVeg (Multiple Locations)
I lived less than two blocks away from this spot and I can’t even tell you how many times I embarrassingly ordered delivery. Hey, sometimes walking is hard especially after a late night. This fast casual spot is best for takeout or delivery (though they do have a few small tables inside). If it’s a nice day, grab some food and have a picnic.
Pro Tip: Get their smokehouse burger or blackened chipotle fajita wrap with a side of sweet potato fries. You’re welcome.
Vedge
This restaurant is a must because it truly is one of the best vegan restaurants in Philly. It features inventive small plates in an upscale setting. This one is a bit pricier than the rest on this list but it is 100% worth it.
Pro Tip: Get the rutabaga fondue and the eggplant braciole. You may cry a little. Just let it happen.
Monster Vegan
This restaurant only sadly came into my life at the tail-end of my living in Philly. If you’re looking for a vegan version of some classics, this is the spot for you. From pasta to sandwiches, you will not be disappointed. They also have cocktails (though that was introduced after I left so I can’t comment on them!)
Pro Tip: Get the fried chicken cutlet or the truffle alfredo pasta. It’s a lot of food so be prepared to be happily stuffed.
Goldie
This fast casual falafel spot will make you weak at the knees. Their menu is simple: falafel, fries, and shakes and it will change your life. I’m a sucker for good falafel and Goldie truly does not disappoint.
Pro Tip: Get the falafel sandwich and the Tehina shake and prepare to have your world rocked.
Tattooed Mom
Okay so I cheated a little because Tattooed Mom isn’t fully vegan but it’s still absolutely wroth the trip. This divey, hipster bar is quirky and fun with a vegan menu to hit the spot while you sip on some drinks.
Pro Tip: Head there for happy hour from 4-6 every day to get $4 drafts.
