I’ll be honest, Glasgow was not a destination I had on my radar before my trip with Visit Britain. My knowledge of Scotland is made up of Outlander (hello Jamie why didn’t I find you in Scotland?) and stories of friends’ trips. After spending four days in Glasgow, I truly didn’t want to leave. Here are 6 reasons why you should visit Glasgow.
(This blog post is in collaboration with Visit Britain, Impact Travel Alliance, and Fora. As always, all opinions are my own.)
Why Visit Glasgow?
People Make Glasgow
You’ll see signs all around the city claiming that people make Glasgow, and it couldn’t be more true.
Not only are the people some of the friendliest but also, they are advocates for climate policy, the homeless populations, and the BLM movement. Their passion for driving change is infectious and you’ll find yourself wanting to learn everyone’s story.
Less crowded than Edinburgh
Glasgow vs Edinburgh? Neighboring Edinburgh typically receives all the attention and as a result can be extremely crowded, especially during peak season. Glasgow is the perfect off the beaten path alternative with plenty to do. Seriously, you could spend eternity here just visiting all the pubs and eating your way through the fantastic restaurants.
Most eco-friendly way to enter Scotland
London to Glasgow is an easy train ride, making it the perfect addition to your London itinerary. You can either take an overnight train via the Caledonian sleeper or spend a few hours enjoying views of the countryside.
Vegan heaven
Glasgow is a vegan’s and vegetarian’s paradise. There are so many options that you’ll find yourself wishing that there were more meals in the day. Seriously, this is reason enough to visit Glasgow.

Lots of green space
One of the best things about Glasgow is the balance between city and green space. You’ll find numerous parks around the city with my favorite being Pollock Park. It’s also one of the best free things to do in Glasgow. Not only is this park the perfect spot to wander around but you can also see highland cows which are the cutest animals to ever walk this planet (in my humble but correct opinion)
Street art
I’m a sucker for street art. I love seeing the personality of an artist shine through their work. Glasgow is full of some of the most detailed and stunning street murals I’ve ever seen. Take a walking tour to see the best ones or wander around the city discovering them on your own.
Bottom Line
Why visit Glasgow? Glasgow is a wonderful introduction to Scotland with plenty of things to do. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!
