The moment I stumbled upon Getaway House’s website, I knew I had to stay here. The site promised a chance to escape to a tiny cabin in the middle of nature. A way to unplug, recharge, and relax. Balancing our hectic schedules can be exhausting. Often times, I’m up at night with thoughts racing in my head or checking my work calendar to see what meetings I have in the morning. In this day and age, multi-tasking is no longer a skill, it’s a requirement. Enter Getaway. An opportunity to remind yourself to slow down, enjoy time with yourself or a loved one, and just enjoy your surroundings.

[Thank you to Getaway for hosting our stay. As always, all opinions are own.]

Getaway takes care of all the details for you, including sending you helpful things like recommendations of things to do in the area, a packing list, and an overview of what’s in your cabin. A few days before your Getaway, you’ll receive a text with the details of your cabin. It’s as simple as that. Not having the exact address until closer to your stay ensures you don’t over plan. After all the point here is to slow down.

Getting to the Getaway cabins is straightforward. Once you arrive there are plenty of signs leading you towards your cabin. Each cabin has it’s own name and are spaced out well so you can have your privacy.

It’s hard not to fall in love with your cabin the moment you see it. The light colored wood, the cozy feel, and the large window letting in rays of sunlight. There’s even room between the window and the bed to sit, enjoy a good book and a cup of coffee, and just take in the views of nature.

Getaway outfitted the cabins with everything you need. There’s a few food items for purchase, coffee, and tea and an adorable tiny kitchen for you to use.

If you truly want the full experience, they provide a little box for you to place your cell phone in. I highly recommend that you do this. We put away our phones and ended up spending the evening playing board games and drinking wine. I can not remember the last time I played a board game. Honestly, it was more fun than I’ve had in awhile.

Getaway also gifts you with the ingredients to make s’mores by the fire. A perfect touch that encourages you to get out and enjoy some conversation (and wine…there should always be wine) around the fire.

The beds are made for sleeping in. With tons of pillows and a warm comforter, don’t worry about setting an alarm (especially if your phone is in the box). Get up whenever you feel like it. When was the last time you were able to do that?

Of course, you don’t have to spend your entire time in the cabin. There is still plenty to do in the area. Click here to read about top things to do in Shenandoah Valley. Though I would encourage you not to jam pack your days.

Make 2019 the year you incorporate wellness into your travel. Don’t make travel as crazy and hectic as your day to day life. A stay at a Getaway House is the perfect way to ensure you are actually taking some time to reconnect with yourself. Going back to work on Monday won’t seem so bad afterwards.

Ever since I can remember I've loved to travel. As I get older, travel continues to be a priority and I find myself with an insatiable desire to travel as much as I possibly can. My travel style has shifted from jam packing my trips with the top sights and hopping from city to city to slower travel. I loves exploring lesser known destinations, connecting to the culture through food and wine, and supporting local-owned businesses. Every trip I take is an elevated adventure.
